![]() Policy-makers and officials must bring the neighborhood-centered approach back to local governance by working closely with police leaders and other private and parochial social institutions to launch programs that can effectively stabilize and strengthen local communities and actively promoting positive interactions and social bonds among residents. Practical implications Improving neighborhood cohesion is a clear path to cultivate stronger public trust in the police. Future studies, if possible, should incorporate these theoretically relevant and empirically proven variables into the analysis. The CGSS data also did not contain information on some relevant predictors, such as victimization and fear of crime, personal and vicarious contact experiences with the police, and news and social media usage and exposure. Future studies should consider using multiple survey items to reflect Chinese people’s trust from different conceptual dimensions, such as procedural- and outcome-based trust and police legitimacy. Research limitations/implications The CGSS data contained only a single item that could be used to measure public trust in the police. Elderly, women, less educated and people with rural hukou and higher perceived social class were more likely to trust the police. Greater neighborhood cohesion also enhanced public trust in the police. Findings Both generalized trust and particularized trust exerted a significant positive effect on trust in the Chinese police. Multivariate regression was employed to analyze the effects of two forms of social trust, generalized trust and particularized trust, and three types of neighborhood cohesion, neighbor solidary, support and interaction, on public trust in the Chinese police, controlling for personal background characteristics. Design/methodology/approach This study used survey data collected from roughly 5,600 respondents by the 2012 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS). Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess the influences of social trust and neighborhood cohesion on public trust in the police in China. The brevity of PANES allows items to be included in studies or surveillance systems to expand knowledge about neighborhood environments. Access to recreation facilities and street connectivity items were not supported. 01).Conclusions:PANES items related to land use mix, residential density, pedestrian infrastructure, aesthetic qualities, and safety from traffic and crime were supported by correlations with NEWS-A subscales. Spearman correlations for the PANES single item vs NEWS-A subscale comparisons ranged from. ![]() Surveys were completed twice with a 27-day interval.Results:Test-retest ICCs for PANES items ranged from. The current study evaluated test-retest and alternate-form reliability of PANES items compared with multi-item subscales from the longer NEWS-A (Neighborhood Environment Walkability Scale-Abbreviated).Methods:Participants were 291 adults recruited from neighborhoods that varied in walkability in 3 US cities. The 17-item PANES (Physical Activity Neighborhood Environment Scale) was developed to be comprehensive but brief enough for use in multipurpose surveys. In addition, the types of appraising items that occur in the affect of crime news are mental process, behavioural process, relational process, attitudinal lexis, minor clause, epithet and grammatical item.īackground:Neighborhood environment attributes of walkability and access to recreation facilities have been related to physical activity and weight status, but most self-report environment measures are lengthy. However, The Jakarta Post shows 36,2% of affect and it is dominated by the affect of in/security. The Jakarta Globe shows 63,8% of affect and it is dominated by the affect of dis/satisfaction. The present writer found out that the writers in The Jakarta Globe present the affect dominantly. The data is analysed by using the mixed method research. The objectives of the present study are to find out the differences of the affect of crime news in The Jakarta Post and The Jakarta Globe and then to know the types of appraising items in The Jakarta Post and The Jakarta Globe. These texts were analysed using Appraisal Systems Theory (Martin & White, 2005). There were six texts of the crime news that were classified into the same topics. ![]() This study explores the affect of appraisal systems by comparing the crime news in The Jakarta Post and The Jakarta Globe.
